This post is spot on for me as I just watched Gone Girl and for some reason the movie made me think about how truly awful some of the characters are, more than the book. I think I was so caught up in the plot on my first read that I didn’t stop and think about the characters as much, but wow are they messed up. And you are right, as a reader I can take that journey and it is thrilling but also very safe.
I quite enjoyed Laura Sims 'How Can I Help You'. When I started reading it I didn't think I would but got into the character and the scenarios easily. It was an entertaining read.

That’s an interesting idea about being more focused on plot than the characters. I definitely experience that when I read a good mystery or thriller.
