What a great list! I've read and loved many that you've listed here and am adding a few new-to-me authors to my TBR. Thank you for the time you put into this post!
I would add Anne Tyler, Barbara Kingsolver, but I didn't enjoy Copperhead, Elizabeth Gilbert, particularly The Signature of All Things, and from England, Kate Atkinson and Elly Griffiths
What a fantastic list! I smiled as I read some of my favorites listed and I am making notes of the ones I haven't tried yet. Have you seen the movie Wildcat about Flannery O'Connor? I thought it was a great way to understand her and her work.
My favorite list would include Jane Gardam, Willa Cather, Barbara Kingsolver, Karin Slaughter, Gabrielle Zevon, Jane Austen, and George Eliot.
I used to read Rachel Held Evans and D. L. Mayfield alongside Sarah Bessey’s work :) I’m a big fan of the greats, N. K. Jemisin, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Min Jin Lee, Jhumpa Lahiri, Octavia Butler.. as well as women authors of translated literature, Han Kang, Bora Chung, Cheon Seon-ran, Park Seolyeon!
Some names I really love here, some completely new to me! Thank you
My pleasure!

I’ve yet to read anything by Anne Tyler. I know I’m missing out!
Try Edith Wharton.
I’ve read The House of Mirth, but would definitely like to explore more of her work someday.
Just try Ethan Frome, and Roman Fever. Heart breaking.
Thanks for this list. While I am familiar with some, many are new. I look forward to exploring these authors and their works.
That’s what I like to hear! Thank you!
Yes to so many of these! Great list!
Thanks! So glad you liked it.

I haven’t seen Wildcat, but that sounds fantastic.
Criterion is streaming it right now. `
Louise Penny would make my list, as would Katherine Arden, Mary Oliver and NK Jemison.
I too love Mary Oliver!
Yes I love this! I recently read Keegan’s Small Things Like These, and I loved it
Tove Jansson! ☺️👍
