Yay! Sam is underrated, I think.

I wish I could escape everything for a month, and read all of these quiet books.

I probably need 3 months because I’m a slow reader.😂

Thank you friend!😍

I loved The remains of the day when I read it as a teenager, such a quiet, relaxing and beautiful book!

I’m reading Talking at Night right now, and I would classify it as a quiet book! It feels like a Sally Rooney book, but I’m rooting for the characters more 😂

I just looked up Talking at Night, and it sounds great. That cover is gorgeous, too.

I recently read The Door-to-Door Bookstore and I thought it was a quiet read!

I've been meaning to read Dept of Speculation! Have you read Weather? It's also a quick one - quiet and tender but also really funny and tinged with heartache!

I haven’t read that one yet. It’s been lingering on my TBR for a while.

May I ask you to consider Bill Clegg’s Did You Ever Have a Family for this list?

I felt the same way about Tom Lake. I also loved Foster. I put Dept of Speculation on my list as I love short books- they make me feel so accomplished. I have Gilead somewhere- it is the fav book of my forever friend but when I tried it long ago, it wasn’t the right time for me. I should really reread the remains of the day because it is a book I think I read and thought was amazing but can’t remember a single thing. I’m reading Tears of a Giraffe right now which is part of the number one ladies detective series and I’m pleasantly surprised at how delightful it is- it feels quiet in some ways for a mystery book and I love the way he creates character’s and describes the setting.

I too want to revisit The Remains of the Day. I think you’d really like Gilead, or at least appreciate the writing. I’m glad you’re reading something you’re enjoying!

I love a quiet book when I’m in the right mood. Have you ever read Ethan Joella? I’d recommend his books if you’re looking for a quiet story. Tom Lake was a favorite of mine from 2023 and bonus that I spend summers in Northern Michigan.

I’m unfamiliar with that author. I’ll have to look him up. Thanks for the recommendation!
