What Caught My Eye Online #18
Where else will you find poems, queso, and North Korea in the same post?
I looked at a calendar today and realized March is nearly half over. Time has been flying by lately! I’m thankful for more sunlight and no more snow (I hope!). I feel more energized thanks to the longer days. I also get a three-day weekend in a couple of days, so I’m thriving this week.
This week’s roundup might be the most random one I’ve done, but I want to share things I’m truly excited about, not just stuff that fits a certain type of content. With that said, enjoy the list.
I enjoyed this video full of poetry recommendations from Jack Edwards. He shares a wide array of poets and reads some poems, too, which was nice.
Check out this list of 7 novels about African women in all their complexities. The Three of Us has been on my TBR for a while now.
Big March book release days continue! I’m excited to read You Get What You Pay For by Morgan Parker and Great Expectations by Vinson Cunningham. Though it’s not mentioned in the article, the new book I’m most excited about is Reading Genesis by Marilynne Robinson. I got my hands on that one right away. The cover is gorgeous and kind of holographic, and I fangirled so hard when I saw it.
I adore novelist and short story writer Jamie Quatro, so I was overjoyed to see an interview with her in The Paris Review about her recent stories. I need a new book from her ASAP.
As a history-lover and presidential history nerd, I’m very into thrillers set in Washington, D.C. Follow Me sounds like a fun read! Books that comment on social media and influencer culture always interest me.
My friend Mary shared two poems about friendship in her latest post, and both are beautiful.
Along with friends and poems, queso is another thing I love. This recipe looks promising.
I hardly ever watch movies, but I watched Da’Vine Joy Randolph’s acceptance speech for her Best Supporting Actress Oscar, and it was lovely. Her voluminous blue dress is lovely, too! It makes me happy to see women succeeding and being supported by other women.
In non-Oscars news, I’ve long been fascinated by North Korea, so I was riveted by this BBC article about a small village by the DMZ.
There’s some great advice in this piece about five ways to embrace slow living. This part is especially good:
“If you want to stop feeling so rushed and pressured, slow time by paying attention to what you’re doing while you’re doing it. Improve your connections to others by paying attention to the people you encounter. Do better work by focusing on important tasks. Don’t wait for a big bucket list experience to engage with your life – experience the details of every day, and you’ll feel more alive.”
Has anything caught your eye lately? Thanks for reading!
❤️❤️❤️ I’m so honored to be included among so many awesome things.
I need to learn how to live slower.
I feel like I’ve been on a hamster wheel lately!
And randomness is wonderful!❤️
